Deciduous trees are woody plants that shed their leaves annually, typically in autumn,  as part of a seasonal growth cycle. This adaptation helps the trees conserve  water and energy during colder or drier periods. Common deciduous species  include oak, maple, birch, and beech, which are found across temperate and  some tropical regions.

Deciduous trees are characterized by broad, flat  leaves that are efficient at capturing sunlight during the growing season. In  autumn, these leaves often change color before falling, a process caused by  the breakdown of chlorophyll. During winter or dry seasons, the trees enter a  dormant phase.

Ecologically, deciduous forests support high levels  of biodiversity and play an important role in soil enrichment through leaf  litter. They are widely valued for timber, shade, and their seasonal  variation, which strongly influences landscapes and ecosystems.
