Crate Dining Bench is part of the Crate collection — a collaboration between Rietveld Originals and HAY that brings Gerrit Thomas Rietveld's 1934 design back into production with full respect for the original's formal and material intentions. Rietveld designed the Crate furniture to make creative use of surplus wooden shipping crates, and the design's precisely balanced proportions and transparent construction logic reflect his determination to minimise production costs while optimising the use of the available material. The result is a body of work that is as much a statement about design philosophy as a practical furniture solution.

The Crate Dining Bench shares the same construction methodology as the rest of the collection — a straightforward assembly of timber planks using exposed joints that make the structure's logic immediately legible. The bench is available in untreated pine, which develops a natural patina over time, or in lacquered and painted versions that introduce colour while maintaining the transparent construction character.
