Palm trees are a group of perennial plants belonging to the family Arecaceae. They are most commonly associated with tropical and subtropical regions, though some species grow in temperate climates. Palms are easily recognized by their tall, unbranched trunks and large, fan-shaped or feather-like leaves arranged in a crown at the top.

Unlike typical trees, palms do not produce secondary growth, meaning their trunk diameter remains largely constant throughout their lifespan. They grow from a single apical bud, making them vulnerable to damage at the crown. Palm species vary greatly in size, ranging from small understory plants to some of the tallest trees in the world, such as the coconut palm.

Palm trees play important ecological and economic roles, providing food, oil, fiber, and building materials. They are also widely used as ornamental plants and have become strong visual symbols of warm climates and coastal landscapes.
