13Eighty Dining Chair is designed for HAY by Scholten & Baijings and shares the same 1,380-perforation moulded polypropylene shell as the armless version of the design — a pattern of holes that generates the chair's characteristic interplay of light, shadow, and transparency. The perforations create a visual rhythm across the shell surface and give the chair an aesthetic identity that is immediately recognisable while remaining formally restrained and versatile across different interior and exterior contexts.
The dining chair version introduces a different configuration or base option within the 13Eighty family, extending the design's applicability across different seating scenarios. The weather-resistant polypropylene construction and the practical drainage function of the perforations ensure the 13Eighty performs effectively in outdoor settings as well as indoors — a versatility that makes it a strong specification choice for settings where the boundary between interior and exterior dining is intentionally blurred.
The stackable construction supports efficient storage in higher-volume dining environments, and the range of available shell colours allows the chair to be specified in single-colour or mixed-palette arrangements suited to different interior concepts. The 13Eighty Dining Chair is well suited to residential dining rooms, covered terraces, restaurant environments, and hospitality settings where a durable, design-quality stacking dining chair is required for both indoor and outdoor use.
The 13Eighty Dining Chair is produced by HAY using the same UV-stabilised, post-consumer-aware polypropylene technology consistent with the brand's commitment to considered material choices. Designed in collaboration with Scholten & Baijings, the 13Eighty reflects HAY's commitment to working with internationally recognised designers to produce furniture of genuine contemporary relevance.
