PK61 is a coffee table designed by Poul Kjærholm and one of the most minimal and formally resolved pieces in the entire Kjærholm collection. Its square aesthetic serves as a powerful design manifesto — a statement about the value of formal restraint, geometric clarity, and material precision as the primary tools of furniture design. The table documents Kjærholm's development from industrial designer to what he himself described as furniture architect: a practitioner for whom the design of a table was as serious an undertaking as the design of a building.
The PK61's flat steel frame and slate, marble, or glass tabletop create a composition of extraordinary economy — every element present for a specific structural or formal reason, nothing present without purpose. The material quality of the stone or glass surface and the precision of the steel frame are mutually reinforcing, each elevating the other in a way that produces a whole of greater refinement than either element would suggest individually.
The PK61 is well suited to residential living rooms and private spaces where a coffee table of significant design standing is the priority. Its formal authority and material precision also make it an appropriate specification for high-end hospitality environments, cultural institutions, and executive spaces where furniture of genuine design heritage contributes to the character of the space.
