Carimate is a dining chair originally designed by Vico Magistretti in 1959 for the Carimate golf club north of Milan, from which the design takes its name. The chair's bold, characterful form made it a highly regarded piece in Magistretti's body of work, and its combination of a rush seat, painted beech frame, and strong, clearly articulated profile gave it an identity that was immediately recognisable. Fritz Hansen brought the Carimate into its collection as part of an effort to preserve significant mid-century European furniture design.
The chair's personality is direct and confident — it does not seek to disappear into an interior scheme but rather to anchor it. The rush seat introduces a natural, tactile material element that contrasts with the precision of the lacquered wood frame, and the overall construction reflects the Italian craft tradition within which Magistretti worked throughout his career.
The Carimate is well suited to dining rooms and kitchen spaces in residential settings, and its strong design character makes it an effective choice for restaurant and hospitality interiors where provenance and authenticity of design contribute to the atmosphere of the space.
Fritz Hansen maintains the Carimate with the same construction quality and material standards applied across its broader collection of reissued and contemporary designs.
