Lily is a dining chair designed by Arne Jacobsen, first created for Danmarks Nationalbank — a commission that gave Jacobsen the opportunity to develop one of his most technically ambitious chair forms. The Lily is distinguished by its wide, sculptural shoulder line and narrow waist, a profile that pushes the possibilities of pressure-moulded veneer further than any of Jacobsen's earlier shell chair designs and is widely considered the most elaborate chair he ever produced.
The 3108 model, originally named the Series 8, represents the full expression of Jacobsen's investigation into what veneer technology could achieve in terms of three-dimensional form. The shell's complex double curvature provides both the chair's characteristic silhouette and its ergonomic performance — the form wraps around the upper body in a way that supports the back and shoulders simultaneously. The result is a chair where structural logic and formal beauty are completely unified.
The Lily is specified in residential dining rooms and living spaces where a piece of significant design heritage is part of the brief, as well as in high-specification hospitality environments, executive dining settings, and cultural institutions where the quality and provenance of the furniture is understood as integral to the spatial experience. Available in a range of shell colours and base configurations.
Available as a 2D DWG drawing, 3D model, Revit file and ArchiCAD file.
