The CH44 Lounge Chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1965 and represents one of the cleaner expressions of his approach to lounge seating — a design in which structural logic and formal refinement are in close alignment. The chair's most distinctive feature is the joint between the front legs and armrests, executed with the precision and character that is a hallmark of Wegner's best work.
The armrests slope upward towards the rear legs, becoming progressively more slender as they rise, elegantly reinforcing the vertical joint and giving the chair a sense of upward movement despite its low, settled stance. Grooves on the top of the rear legs allow a back cushion to be hung in place without mechanical fixings — a small detail that reflects Wegner's broader interest in finding structural solutions that are also visually resolved.
The CH44 works well as a lounge chair in residential living rooms and reading areas, and its considered construction makes it a strong choice for hospitality and commercial environments where furniture quality is expected to be visible and legible. Available in a range of wood species and upholstery options.
Available as a 2D DWG drawing and 3D model.
