Designed by:
Poul Kjærholm

PK0 A is a chair designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1952, at the very outset of his career at Fritz Hansen, and one of the most revealing early works in his body of furniture design. Where much of Kjærholm's later work is characterised by the precision of flat steel and mineral surfaces, the PK0 A takes a different direction — a curved, sculptural form in solid wood that demonstrates the full breadth of his ability as a designer from the very beginning of his professional life.

The chair has been reissued in Oregon pine or black-coloured ash with cinnabar red spacers, a material and colour combination that gives the design a warmth and visual vitality distinct from the cooler material palette of the steel-framed PK pieces. It functions as a functional sculpture in the truest sense — a chair that performs its seated purpose while operating as an autonomous design object of considerable presence.

The PK0 A is well suited to residential living rooms and spaces where a piece of significant design heritage is valued both for its formal qualities and its historical position within the Fritz Hansen and Danish Modern canon. Its distinctive material character also makes it appropriate for cultural, hospitality, and exhibition environments where the presence of a considered, named design contributes to the spatial experience.

Available as a 2D DWG drawing, 3D model, Revit file and ArchiCAD file.
