Dorso Lounge Chair is designed by GamFratesi for HAY, its name derived from the Latin for back — a reference to the shifting curves of a human torso in motion that inspired the design's distinctive rounded exterior form. The chair combines a sculptural, organic body with a rotating base, creating a lounge chair that is both visually distinctive and practically flexible — the swivel mechanism allows the sitter to adjust their orientation easily without leaving the chair, supporting both social conversation and more private, inward-turned use.
GamFratesi's design approach brings together Stine Gam's Danish design background and Enrico Fratesi's Italian sensibility, producing furniture that combines Scandinavian formal restraint with a more expressive, sculptural quality. The Dorso's compact dimensions make it practical across a wide range of spatial contexts, from domestic living rooms to more institutional lounge and waiting area environments, without requiring the large floor area that some sculptural lounge chairs demand. The high level of seated comfort makes it appropriate for extended periods of use.
The Dorso is well suited to residential living rooms, hotel rooms, executive waiting areas, and any lounge environment where a compact, comfortable, and formally distinctive swivel lounge chair is required. Its rotating base makes it particularly appropriate for spaces where the orientation of the seating may need to adapt to changing social configurations, and its sculptural form gives it a design presence appropriate to interiors where individual pieces are expected to contribute to the overall spatial character. The Dorso's swivel base and compact dimensions make it an exceptionally practical lounge chair for rooms where social dynamics and spatial flexibility are equally important.
