PM-02 is a table lamp designed by Paul McCobb for Fritz Hansen, part of the Planner collection that McCobb developed as a relaunch of his celebrated mid-century design work. The lamp demonstrates that formal simplicity and material quality are sufficient ingredients for a genuinely beautiful object — its hand-blown opal glass shade diffuses light into a warm, atmospheric glow, while the three-legged base in solid untreated brass or black lacquered steel provides an elegant material contrast to the cylindrical shade above.
The three-legged base gives the lamp a visual lightness and a slight sense of dynamic balance that distinguishes it from more conventional lamp bases, and the choice of untreated brass as a material option introduces a warmth and tonal richness that develops naturally with use over time. McCobb's approach — democratic design with genuine formal and material quality — is evident throughout the PM-02's restrained but considered design.
The PM-02 is well suited to residential living rooms, bedside tables, home offices, and desk settings where a lamp of considered material character and mid-century design heritage is appropriate. Its warm diffused light and refined form make it an effective accent piece in hospitality settings and any interior context where atmospheric lighting quality is as important as the lamp's visual presence.
