The CH20 Elbow Chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner and entered production by Carl Hansen & Søn for the first time in 2005, winning the ICFF Editors Award in New York in the same year. Its defining feature is a steam-bent backrest crafted from a single piece of solid wood, which wraps around the sitter to provide simultaneous elbow and lower back support while enabling a natural range of sitting positions.

Beneath the seat, a rail construction in form-pressed veneer adds visual refinement and structural strength, contributing to the overall sense of considered detailing that runs through the design. The Elbow Chair sits within the Danish Modern tradition but brings a technical accomplishment — particularly in the steam-bending of the continuous backrest — that distinguishes it from more straightforward chair designs of the same period.

Well suited to dining rooms and kitchen settings, the CH20 also works comfortably in open-plan residential spaces and informal meeting environments where a chair of genuine design quality is appropriate without needing to read as a statement piece.
