Hans J. Wegner’sCH47 chair has a classic and elegant appearance which appears to be inspired bySouthern Europe and the American Shaker pure forms.
Inhis classic CH47 chair from 1966, Hans J. Wegner has used the same design ideaas his CH46 armchair from the same year and the CH44 lounge chair from theprevious year.
TheCH47 design is simple and stylish with its woven seat and a solid wooden framewith rounded profiles. An important element is the curved hind legs which giveCH47 a laid-back look. But more important, the curved legs are chosen to givethe backrest the correct angle but also to ensure that the chair cannot fallbackwards.
InWegner’s design of CH47, you can see how he has used his expert carpentryknowledge to create a sturdy chair. He has strengthened all the joints bydisplacing the rails and stretchers, ensuring that the dowels can be used atfull height and maximum depth when inserted into the chair legs.
TheCH47 chair’s well thought out design and warm natural materials make itsuitable for many types of rooms and functions - from dining rooms to waitingrooms and meeting rooms. The chair is also available as an armchair in modelCH46. In spite of the armrests, it has the same seat width as CH47.
