The CH47 Chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1966 and belongs to a closely related family of designs from the same year, sharing its formal language with the CH46 armchair. Like the CH46 and the CH44 Lounge Chair from the previous year, the CH47 reflects Wegner's ongoing exploration of the relationship between woven cord seating, solid wood frames, and the ergonomic requirements of a well-functioning dining chair.
