EGG Footstool is the companion piece to Arne Jacobsen's Egg chair — one of the most celebrated works in the history of Danish design. Jacobsen designed the Egg in 1958 for the lobby and reception areas of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, developing the form through a process of physical experimentation with wire and plaster in his garage rather than through conventional drawing. The resulting shape — a continuous, enveloping shell that appears to grow organically from its four-star base — was unlike anything produced before and has remained in continuous production since its introduction.
The Egg Footstool shares the same sculptural language as the chair — a neat, understated form with a matching four-star base that allows it to sit in natural visual dialogue with the chair while functioning independently as a footrest or occasional seat. The outer shell is upholstered in fabric or leather over a moulded foam interior, maintaining the continuity of surface that gives the Egg family its distinctive character.
The EGG Footstool is commonly specified alongside the Egg chair in residential living rooms, hotel lobbies, executive waiting areas, and high-specification commercial interiors. It is available in a wide range of upholstery options across Fritz Hansen's full fabric and leather collections.
Available as a 2D DWG drawing, 3D model, Revit file and ArchiCAD file.
