Poul Kjærholm

PK91 is a folding stool designed by Poul Kjærholm as an homage to his mentor Kaare Klint, who created a folding chair in wood in 1930. Kjærholm's interpretation takes Klint's concept and realises it in the material language of his own design practice — matt-chromed steel and leather — producing an object that honours its source while being unmistakably a Kjærholm design in every formal and material detail.

The folding mechanism is engineered with the same precision that characterises the broader Kjærholm collection, and the quality of the leather and steel construction gives the stool a presence and material richness that extends well beyond its modest scale. When open, the PK91 presents a taut, precisely resolved form; when folded, it collapses to a compact, flat profile that allows easy storage without compromising the quality of the object. It is a design that performs its practical function while operating simultaneously as a considered formal statement.

The PK91 is well suited to residential living rooms, private studies, and entrance settings as an occasional seat or footrest. Its folding capability makes it particularly appropriate in spaces where flexibility and compact storage are priorities. The design's connection to Kaare Klint and its position within the Kjærholm narrative make it a meaningful specification choice for those engaged with the Danish Modern tradition.

Available as a 2D DWG drawing, 3D model, Revit file and ArchiCAD file.
