Night Owl is a table lamp designed by Nicholai Wiig Hansen for Fritz Hansen, conceived around a desire to create a distinctly Nordic quality of light — warm, intimate, and informal in a way that responds to the particular demands of Scandinavian domestic life, where artificial light plays a central role in the character of the home for much of the year.
The lamp's form is distinctive and unified — the base and oval shade merge seamlessly into a single continuous form, creating a piece that reads as a resolved object rather than an assembly of functional components. This formal integration gives the Night Owl a strong visual identity that contributes to the atmosphere of a space even when the lamp is not in use. The warm wash of light produced by the oval shade is soft and directional, suitable for ambient lighting in living and bedroom settings.
The Night Owl is well suited to residential living rooms, bedside tables, and reading areas where a lamp of considered Nordic character is required. Its compact, unified form also makes it an appropriate accent piece in hotel rooms, hospitality settings, and any interior context where the quality of the lighting atmosphere is as important as the quality of the light output itself.
