Favn is a sofa designed by Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen, its name derived from the Danish word for embrace — a quality that informed both the visual character and the spatial intent of the design. Hayon conceived the Favn as an open, inviting form: its rounded, generously curved silhouette creates a sense of enclosure and warmth without the heaviness or formality that often characterises large upholstered sofas. The design sits at the intersection of sculpture and function, equally legible as a design object and as a practical piece of seating.
The upholstery combines three different textile zones — seat, back, and surround — creating a layered material composition that introduces texture and colour contrast within the overall form. Round buttons and slender legs provide the detailed character that is consistent across Hayon's Fritz Hansen work, grounding the large curved form with precise finishing touches. The Favn is available in a wide range of fabric and leather combinations, allowing it to be specified across diverse interior contexts and colour directions.
The Favn works well as a centrepiece piece in residential living rooms and open-plan spaces, and its sculptural quality makes it an effective focal point in hotel lobbies, lounge areas, and high-specification hospitality environments. Its generous proportions and enveloping form are particularly suited to spaces where extended periods of comfortable use are the priority.
