Palissade Sofa is the outdoor two-seat lounge piece in Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec's Palissade collection for HAY — built entirely from powder-coated hot-rolled steel and representing the most spatially ambitious and structurally demanding single piece within the Palissade system. The outdoor sofa format is among the most challenging propositions in furniture design: structural rigidity, long-term weather resistance, genuine lounge comfort, and formal design quality must all be achieved simultaneously and without the use of soft materials, cushioning, or weather-sensitive upholstery.

The Bouroullec brothers apply the same flat steel plane and angular construction logic as the rest of the Palissade system to a two-seat lounge format, producing a sofa of considerable presence and permanence. The hot-rolled steel and powder-coated finish ensure year-round outdoor durability, and the sofa's material weight provides the sense of stability and permanence appropriate to a significant outdoor furniture piece. The seating geometry is resolved to provide genuine lounge comfort within the structural constraints of the all-steel construction, and the Palissade Sofa's consistent material construction with the rest of the collection ensures it ages uniformly alongside the other pieces.
