Designed by:
Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzu

Parentesi Pendant by Flos was designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù in 1970, and remains one of the most influential minimal lighting designs of the twentieth century. Parentesi consists of nothing more than a vertical steel cable, tensioned between floor and ceiling, along which a simple cylindrical light source slides freely up and down and can be locked at any height along its length — a design so reduced to its essential mechanism that it barely registers as a conventional light fixture at all. Flos's manufacturing precision ensures the sliding cable mechanism operates smoothly and holds its position reliably over decades of daily repositioning.

The Parentesi Pendant's sliding mechanism allows the light source to be repositioned precisely to illuminate a specific reading position, artwork or work surface, then relocated entirely as the room's use changes — a genuinely flexible approach to task lighting that few conventional pendant designs can match. Its minimal material presence, essentially invisible when not in active use as a visual element, makes it a favourite specification in gallery and museum contexts as well as considered residential interiors.

Architects and interior designers specifying Parentesi for residential, gallery and commercial environments will find the DWG drawing and CAD block essential for cable positioning and ceiling-to-floor coordination. The 3D model supports BIM-accurate spatial documentation. A landmark specification for any project requiring genuinely repositionable, minimal task pendant lighting. Its sliding mechanism also means a single fixture can serve multiple distinct positions within the same room over time.

Available as a 2D DWG drawing and 3D model.
