Designed by:
Hans J. Wegner

The CH25 Lounge Chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn and introduced in the early 1950s. Like many of Wegner's most enduring designs, its appearance is deceptively simple — a low, open timber frame with gently curved armrests and a seat and back woven in paper cord. What distinguishes the CH25 is the material choice that caused a stir at the time of its introduction: the use of woven paper cord for the seat and back, a material originally developed as a wartime substitute for seagrass that Wegner was among the first designers to employ in furniture of this calibre.

The decision proved defining. Paper cord's combination of visual lightness, textural warmth, structural resilience, and non-stretch properties made it an ideal material for a lounge chair designed to be used daily over many years. Subsequent generations of designers and homeowners have confirmed Wegner's instinct — the CH25 remains one of the most consistently specified lounge chairs from the Danish Modern period.

The chair's low, relaxed profile and moderate scale make it well suited to residential living rooms, reading corners, and informal spaces where comfort over extended periods is a priority. Its open structure and natural materials also work effectively in hospitality settings where a sense of warmth and craft is valued alongside design heritage. The CH25 is available in a range of wood species and finishes, with natural or black paper cord.

Available as a 2D DWG drawing and 3D model.
